Between 16th and 18th October, EPODE International Network, the world's largest obesity and NCDs prevention network, in partnership with the PRAIS Foundation - SETS Movement held in Bucharest the first European Obesity Forum. Over 100 participants from 15 Community-Based Programmes (CBPs) from across Europe and members of the EPODE International Network (EIN) attended the European Obesity Forum, together with leading scientific, political and public private stakeholders committed to obesity prevention. The first two days were dedicated to specific working sessions for EIN members, leading up to a plenary conference on the 18th entitled, “Obesity prevention in the community: Effective Means And Tools For Change”.

Among the keynote speakers there were Philippe Roux, Head of Unit DG Health and Consumers European Commission, Dr. Jean-Michel Borys, EPODE European Network Director, Dr. Joao Breda, Program Manager Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity, WHO Regional Office for Europe, joined by our Romanian experts such as Prof. Nicolae Hancu, President of SETS Scientific Council, and Gabriela Szabo, Olympic athlete.

The event was an exceptional opportunity to share best practices and learn from experts on many different aspects of obesity prevention in the community, ranging from how to use the environment in preventing obesity, how CBPs can contribute to reducing health inequalities and discussing the tools we can use in obesity prevention and its related issues.
