“Taste booster” European project

The European project “Increase of the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables among vulnerable groups” developed and implemented in Romania by PRAIS Corporate Communications under the “Taste booster” slogan, successfully marks the end of the first year of implementation on june 11th. On a monthly basis, in the towns of Roman and Medgidia, over 680 beneficiaries from 3 social categories: children, elderly and pregnant women were engaged in 200 direct interventions within which 5.6 tons of fruits and 2.5 tons of vegetables were distributed.

The project is an initiative of the Directorate General for Health and Consumers within the European Commission – DG Sanco – aimed at promoting and encouraging the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables among disadvantaged categories and it is developed in 3 countries: Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania. In our country, PRAIS team engaged 20 local partners in the project: non-governmental organizations and local authorities from the 2 towns. A thorough study of the impact of these information and education methodologies is carried out annually.

The beneficiaries participated actively in 20 mobile road-shows with cooking demonstrations, 186 monthly cooking sessions within which the beneficiaries together with skilled chefs, prepared recipes using a wide variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables. The nutritionists provided the participants with information about the nutritional qualities of vegetables and fruits, their health benefits, as well as means to integrate them in the daily nutrition in order to ensure a balanced diet. After each cooking session, all the beneficiaries received printed recipes, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.
