PRAIS Foundation
In 2002 the consultancy company PRAIS Corporate Communications decided to establish PRAIS Foundation, in order to foster and support the development in the fields of education of the young generation, environmental protection and support for culture, objectives in line with the new world value LOHAS - "Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability" whose initiator it is in Romania.
"All the projects are created by PRAIS Corporate Communications through the volunteer work of its team and then donated to PRAIS Foundation, as a sign of its direct involvement in building a different kind of progress", declared Silvia Bucur, president of PRAIS Foundation.
PRAIS Foundation developed throughout these years the National Community Journalism Contest: "You are not alone!", the cultural project to promote contemporary dance and young talents from the Romanian choreography high schools in association with Razvan Mazilu, called "Dance Energy". In October 2006, it launched the national planting movement "Millions of People, Millions of Trees", which will be organized for a period of 5 years.
Between its launch in September 2006 and May 2009, the movement registered a record number of plantings at the national level: over 38,000,000 trees and more than 11,000,000 bushes and plants. These results were possible due to the outstanding involvement of more than 500 organisations, 59,000 volunteers and 66,000 employees.
Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) supports the Romanian movement, welcoming the involvement of our foundation in UNEP's global efforts, which is why we set a new objective for the third edition: overall planting of 22 million trees and plants in the following 18 months.
Every year, on June 5th, on World Environment Day, the partners, founding member and sponsors award the "Millions of People, Millions of Trees" Trophies and the Excellence Diplomas for the top 3 participants in the following categories:
"Mayoralty of the Year", "Forestry Department of the Year", "County Council of the Year", "School of the Year", "NGO of the Year", "Company of the Year". Additionally, Merit Diplomas are awarded to all the organizations registered in the national planting movement.
In November 2008, PRAIS Corpoatre Communications together with PRAIS Foundation launches the educational component of its environmental projects "Your world? Clean!" addressing from the first edition 2,500 fourth grade pupils from Bucharest who will learn about recyclable waste and will contribute directly to selective waste collection in 32 schools. A series of creative activities will be organized throughout the school year 2008-2009, all aiming to foster respect of the young generation for the environment.
PRAIS Foundation is open to the partnership and support of the companies which believe in its programmes, in the national planting movement "Millions of People, Millions of Trees" which aims mainly at the recreation of the environment, concern for the next generations to whom we owe more than ever the preservation of the biosphere!
